What goes into a Swabhav garment?
Every choice below is intentional. Nothing is decorative. Nothing is rushed.
Hemp / भांग
Understand the fabric of your clothes.
Swabhav garments are made using 100% hemp fabric. No blends. No surface finishes. No shortcuts.
Our hemp is spun from the stalk fibres of the Cannabis sativa plant and woven specifically for everyday clothing. Fabric weights range from 115 to 250 GSM, chosen strictly by use — lighter for warm weather and ease, heavier for structure, durability, and repeated wear.
Hemp fibre has a tensile strength up to three times higher than cotton, allowing garments to last longer without becoming thick or stiff. With use and washing, hemp softens while retaining strength, instead of thinning out.
Naturally, hemp is breathable, moisture-regulating, antimicrobial, and UV resistant. Its hollow fibre structure allows air to circulate while maintaining thermal balance — cool in summer, insulating in winter.
From a resource perspective, hemp uses ~70% less water than cotton, requires no pesticides, and improves soil health. These qualities are inherent to the fibre, not chemically added.
For solely pajamas, we use a bamboo–hemp blend — bamboo for surface softness, hemp for breathability and durability. Chosen for comfort, not performance claims.
This is material science applied to daily wear.
Mother of Pearl Button
We use naturally sourced mother-of-pearl buttons.
Not for decoration, but for their strength, smoothness, and the way they age without cracking or dulling. Each button is hand sewn, not machine locked.
This matters because buttons take stress every day. When they are sewn slowly and properly, they don’t loosen. They don’t fall off. They simply stay.
rPet Thread
All stitching is done using AMANN rPET thread.
It is selected for strength and consistency, and adjusted specifically for hemp so that the seams hold as the fabric softens over time. Weak thread ruins good fabric. We don’t allow that mismatch.
Construction
Comfort in Swabhav comes from fit and fabric, not stretch or tricks.
The garments are cut slightly relaxed for daily wear, and structured where needed for occasional use — never body-hugging, never restrictive.
Every piece is constructed using French seams throughout. Necklines and hems are hand-finished where the design requires it. Buttons are hand sewn. No artisan is rushed. There are no artificial deadlines inside the workshop.
We do not use canvas or fusing. All support in collars, cuffs, and plackets comes only from hemp fabric itself. This allows the garment to breathe, move, and age naturally.
This is slower work. It is also better work.
